What place does anthropology have in digital media production? I am just the person to ask!

My name is Prushia Golden and throughout my career as a documentary filmmaker, I seek to explore how media can help us grow our connection to ourselves and others. Ultimately, I highlight how the worlds of anthropology and media production can become unlikely friends.

Originally from east Iowa, I grew up knowing my career would be in video production. My interests also grew into the field of anthropology during my time studying at the University of Northern Iowa where I was able to work on several projects with professors, alum, and secure several internship opportunities in the Cedar Falls and Waterloo communities. Most notably, I have assisted the Iowa Organic Association in creating awareness and visibility for organic farming practices, worked alongside local nonprofits to increase accessibility services to immigrants and refugees, collaborated on a documentary that highlighted the archival work of Fortepan Iowa, and I am deeply involved in the arts of the Cedar Valley, having filmed over thirty theater and youth orchestra performances in the past four years. Now, as a panther alum, I am able to apply my storytelling skills at Around the Corner Productions.

You will often see me on set directing and coordinating clients and cameras, conducting interviews, assisting our camera crew, and ensuring that our partners are satisfied and their expectations exceeded throughout every step of the video production process. When we aren’t on location, I am often editing our clients’ videos in order to showcase their work with the artistry and care you can only find with Around the Corner Productions.

That’s my story. What’s yours?
